چکیده

It is shown that a pair of identical emitters (e.g. wire dipole antennas) in the focal points of a disc, made of left-handed metamaterial (a “perfect” lens), form a non-radiating electromagnetic configuration. The emitters are fed with voltages of equal magnitude and πout-of-phase. Detailed finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) modeling shows that there are non-propagating electromagnetic fields generated – fields that remain confined within the region between the emitters and the lens. The energy balance of the system shows that the radiation resistance of the system is very low. This means that the input power is converted to heat in the volume of the lens and only a small fraction of it is radiated. The system performance shows that disturbing the configuration of the non-propagating electromagnetic fields with the presence of an externally introduced object stimulates radiation. This suggests possible detector applications. In-phase feeding voltages are also studied with the consequence that the radiation resistance of the antennae is increased.

A Non-Radiating Composite Right-/Left-Handed Transmission Line Derived from Substrate Integrated Rectangular Hollow Waveguide

The majority of up-to-date conceived composite right-handed / left-handed (CRHLH) transmission lines (TL) are open configurations derived from microstrip technology. We present here a closed CRHLH architecture derived from the H10 rectangular hollow waveguide mode, which is realised in substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) technology and is thus easy to fabricate. The dispersion characteristic i...

Giant Goos-Häenchen Shift of a Gaussian Beam Reflected from One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Containing Left-Handed Lossy Metamaterials

We perform a theoretical investigation on the Goos-Häenchen shift (the lateral shift) in one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPCs) containing left-handed (LH) metamaterials. The effect was studied by use of a Gaussian beam. We show that the giant lateral displacement is due to the localization of the electromagnetic wave which can be both positive and negative depending on the incidence angle o...

Combined mixed convection and radiation simulation of inclined lid driven cavity

This paper presents a numerical investigation of the laminar mixed convection flow of a radiating gas in an inclined lid-driven cavity. The fluid is treated as a gray, absorbing, emitting, and scattering medium. The governing differential equations including continuity, momentum and energy are solved numerically by the computational fluid dynamics techniques (CFD) to obtain the velocity and tem...

Design of Miniaturized Dominant Mode Leaky-Wave Antenna with Backfire-to-Endfire Scanning Capability by using Metamaterials

A new miniaturized dominant mode leaky-wave antenna is proposed. This antenna is a transmission line structure with radiating wavenumber increasing from negative to positive values, providing backward to forward scanning capability as frequency is increased. The antenna profile is designed based on microstrip technology using balanced composite right left handed transmission lines (CRLH TL) app...

Double-side Radiating Leaky-wave Antenna Based on Composite Right/left-handed Coplanar-waveguide

A double-side radiating leaky-wave antenna based on composite right/left-handed (CRLH) coplanar-waveguide (CPW) is proposed. Dispersion diagram of the unit cell is investigated, and balanced property is confirmed. Thus, the CRLH leaky-wave antenna can have backfire radiation due to the left-handed property of the CRLH structure and broadside radiation at the balancing frequency point. The measu...
